QBE hails tech impact in workers’ comp

QBE Australia says its investment in claims technology is improving outcomes for customers of its people risk unit.

The insurer has highlighted its MyRecovery app – developed by Perx Health – which uses gamification to help users follow treatment plans.

The app offers incentives, including gift cards, for people who complete scheduled recovery tasks and features tools to simplify claims processes.

QBE says workers’ compensation claimants using the app have recorded an average 23-day reduction in recovery times.

People risk claims GM David Bacon says the results “speak for themselves”.

“We know that getting someone into a recovery routine early – and helping them stick to it – is one of the best ways to improve their outcomes,” he said. “We’re seeing real impact, and we’re committed to building on that momentum to support even more effective recoveries.”

Mr Bacon has also hailed a new generative AI tool, developed in-house, that provides summaries of customer calls.

He says it has streamlined note-taking processes, allowing claims staff to “give their full focus on their customers, even in challenging conversations”.

QBE says it will look to incorporate the software across more areas, with an immediate focus on compulsory third party and support for vulnerable customers.
