Haast wins local leg of Zurich innovation contest

Regtech Haast has won the Australian round of this year’s Zurich Innovation Championship and will present to executives in Switzerland against other winners from across the world.

The start-up's platform uses artificial intelligence (AI) to automate marketing compliance processes.

“We are thrilled to have won ... and are excited by the possibility to elevate and scale our platform with the support of Zurich,” co-founder Kunal Vankadara said.

This year’s Innovation Championship attracted more than 3300 applicants globally.

Two winners from each of four categories will receive up to $US100,000 ($154,705) in funding and enter a four-month accelerator program to test the desirability, feasibility and viability of their products.

Haast says an explosion of digital content has made marketing compliance “virtually impossible”, as digital brands have on average 20 channels promoting products.

Mr Vankadara, who previously worked in law and consulting, has told insuranceNEWS.com.au he spent a lot of time reviewing marketing material and “doing it one by one”.

“It’s the stuff that [artificial intelligence] is good at and that humans are not good at,” he said. “It’s a really good entryway into using more AI and really making that efficiency benefit.”

This year’s Innovation Championship categories are commercial insurance, digital simplification, life and health, and retail property and casualty.

The overall winners will be announced next month.
