Claims platform adds subrogation ID tool

US claims insurtech Clara Analytics has enhanced its Triage platform to automatically identify subrogation opportunities.

It provides assessments and numeric scores to help claims adjusters focus on cases with the greatest potential for subrogation – an insurer’s ability to recover money paid to an insured from the party at fault.

The new tool could help insurers identify millions of dollars in previously missed recovery opportunities, according to Clara CEO Heather Wilson, who says the market has a significant gap around subrogation opportunity identification.

“Our mission is to transform the way claims management teams work with their subrogation partners to deliver transformative financial results,” she said.

“Our new subrogation detection capabilities are a major step forward.”

Clara says Triage users have improved their combined operating ratios by 2%-5% after a year of claims development. Predictive and generative artificial intelligence technology helps to identify and prioritise high-risk claims from first notice of loss until final settlement.

The platform’s database draws from the experience of multiple insurers to gauge medical and legal risk.

“Triage ingests new claims data as soon as it becomes available, updating scores and alerting claims managers when a key threshold is met,” Clara says.
