Careful cabbies to secure cover rewards

Zurich is introducing a program for Hong Kong taxi drivers in which the insurance offered will depend on their safety ratings.

The offering, for electric cabs, uses the TAXY platform from insurtech YAS Insurance to score individual driving behaviour.

The YAS mobile app and government-required in-vehicle cameras track driving patterns with AI, and the program integrates with traffic data for instant alerts to avoid high-risk areas.

Drivers with Zurich personal accident insurance are incentivised to achieve the second or third safety rating tiers to unlock offers of property cover, or motor cover for family members.

“This reflects our commitment to supporting taxi drivers with protection that not only safeguards their livelihoods but also contributes to a more sustainable and resilient transport ecosystem,” Zurich greater China CEO Eric Hui said.

YAS has assessed road conditions, weather patterns and driving behaviour for months and says partnering with Zurich will improve fleet efficiency.

“This program will keep evolving, with new incentives, rewards and partnerships, from e-commerce to electric charging,” YAS co-founder William Lee said.
