Rising stars to sparkle at industry ball

A new industry event aims to promote and celebrate the next generation of insurance talent by connecting up-and-comers with experienced leaders.

The Rising Stars Insurance Ball – organised by Curium, Insurtech Australia and the Underwriting Agencies Council – will be at Sydney’s Fullerton Hotel on July 3.

Early bird tickets are available until May 31, and every guest is encouraged to bring a rising star – “someone they believe in, back and want to introduce to the industry”.

Insurtech Australia CEO Simone Dossetor says it can be difficult for newcomers to gain a foothold without the right connections.

“At Insurtech Australia, we regularly connect with talented tech innovators whose solutions have real potential for the insurance industry – yet breaking in remains a challenge.

“That’s why we’re passionate about creating spaces where emerging talent can build their knowledge, raise their profile and develop a deeper understanding of what the industry truly needs. When that happens, their products and solutions don’t just enter the market – they solve real problems.

“The Rising Stars Ball is exactly that kind of space. An opportunity to forge meaningful connections, expand your network and take the next step in your insurtech journey.”

Curium CEO and co-founder Tetiana George says entry-level roles are disappearing, along with on-the-job apprenticeships.

“In a few years we’ll have a workforce split – experienced leaders with deep insurance knowledge, and a tech-fluent younger generation who haven’t had the same chance to learn the craft,” she said.

“Bridging that gap is one of the most important conversations our industry can be having right now.”

UAC CEO Jenny Bax says attracting talent is important, but so is retention.

“People stay in industries where they feel connected, included and able to see a future for themselves,” she told insuranceNEWS.com.au. “Events like this help create that sense of belonging.”
