Physio charged with alleged WorkSafe billing fraud
A physiotherapist has been charged over an alleged workers’ compensation fraud that involved billing claims agents $650,313 for services not provided.
WorkSafe Victoria says the 36-year-old registered service provider faces four charges of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.
It is alleged the physiotherapist fraudulently billed the scheme’s four agents for care not provided to injured workers between January 2023 and April this year.
The Victorian scheme’s agents are Allianz Australia Workers’ Compensation, EML, Gallagher Bassett and DXC Claims Management Services.
The matter, which follows a WorkSafe investigation, is listed for a first hearing in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
Initial filing hearings typically set a timetable for the exchange of information between the prosecution and defence, and schedule a date for the matter to return to court.
