NTI polishes up Ruby for annual truck raffle
NTI has restored a 1947 Chevrolet Maple Leaf truck for its annual raffle to support motor neurone disease research.
The transport and logistics insurer says the red and black vehicle, named Ruby, features an anti-lock braking system, plus vehicle stability and traction control.

“Inside, modern comforts are seamlessly integrated, including electric windows, air-conditioning, a touch-screen media system and a reversing camera, making this classic truck as functional as it is distinctive,” NTI said.
“Powered through a six-speed manual transmission, the truck is built for practical capability … Ruby combines vintage character with modern performance, continuing NTI’s tradition of transforming classic trucks into one-of-a-kind collectors’ items.”
Ruby will be on display at vintage vehicle events including Downunder Beachfest in May and Cooly Rocks On in June before the raffle is drawn on July 12 at the NTI Townsville 500 supercar race.
Since 2017, the insurer has raised more than $3 million for MND research through its annual raffles of restored pick-ups.
“NTI became involved with MND after our former CEO, Wayne Patterson, was diagnosed with the disease and later passed away,” CEO Janelle Green said.
“Wayne is widely regarded as the leader who created the modern NTI, and we wanted to honour his legacy in a meaningful way.”
Mr Patterson was diagnosed with the condition in 2015 and died three years later.
Ms Greene says every day MND claims the lives of two Australians, and another two are diagnosed.
“That’s why this work is so important. I think Wayne would be amazed and humbled by what this initiative has achieved.”
Funds raised will go to the NTI Research Grant for MND.
