New marine underwriter promises 'innovative solutions'

Marine-focused underwriting agency RedSky Insurance has started commercial operations this month, led by a team of specialists with more than 96 years of combined industry experience.

The agency starts with an existing portfolio, acquired from Agile Underwriting for an undisclosed amount, according to co-founder Jill Murphy. Ms Murphy was a marine underwriter at Agile before embarking on the new business venture.

“Our message to the clients is that it is business as usual but with greater resources,” she told insuranceNEWS.com.au today.

“The security is the same but with more resources to ensure that we cope with the growing portfolio.”

insuranceNEWS.com.au understands the security is provided by Lloyd’s.

The agency will provide underwriting solutions for cargo, hull and machinery, yacht, pleasure craft and liability policies.

“We are passionate about what we do, and we have the experience and relationships to create tailor-made marine insurance for our corporate customers whilst also offering online solutions for products such as pleasure craft,” Ms Murphy said in a statement.

“Marine insurance can be difficult to understand because it is different to the other general insurance lines. This has resulted in a lot of insurers pulling back or offering a beige, one size fits all, product.

“Our goal is to bring some colour back into the market and help clients find innovative solutions.”

The agency's other co-founders and specialists are Heather Roberts, previously NTI corporate development specialist, and Jodie Drinnan, formerly QBE’s national distribution manager.
