Munich Re names new local MD as Ronnenberg departs

Scott Hawkins will step into the role of MD Australasia at Munich Re next month, taking over from Ralph Ronnenberg who has held the role for five years.

Sydney-based Mr Hawkins, who joined Munich Re in Australia in 2005 and has been Head of Non-Life for the past six years, will report to Tobias Farny, CEO Asia Pacific, Greater China and Australia/New Zealand.

Mr Hawkins succeeds Mr Ronnenberg who is returning to the German head office to become head of Reinsurance Controlling for the Munich Re Group.

Dr Farny says Mr Hawkins’ deep technical expertise and strong client focus will position him well to lead the local business into its next stage.

“Scott has a proven track record in strategically managing significant reinsurance transactions and in developing innovative risk solutions,” he said.

Prior to joining Munich Re, Mr Hawkins spent two years at QBE as reinsurance underwriter, and three years at the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority as risk specialist.

He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
