Industry moves: prominent retirement, appointments announced

Guy Carpenter stalwart Paul Allison will retire at the end of June, following 19 years’ service with the company.

Mr Allison, who is Vice Chairman for the Pacific Region, has enjoyed a 43-year career in reinsurance and helped grow the industry in Australia. He was awarded the Order of Australia Medal last year, and has been a mentor to many in the market.

“Paul has made a significant contribution to our success in the Pacific region,” CEO Asia-Pacific Tony Gallagher said today.

“We wanted to thank him for his dedicated service and invaluable work both at Guy Carpenter and for the wider reinsurance industry.”

Meanwhile, Allianz Australia has appointed James Fitzpatrick as Chief Technical Officer. Mr Fitzpatrick joins in August from Avant Mutual, where he was Chief Data Officer and GM Member Solutions.

In other industry appointments, Caroline Rockett has joined NSW’s state insurer icare as Group Executive Digital and Technology. Her previous employers include TAL Life and Wesfarmers Insurance.

And Canopius today announced the appointment of Craig Elliott as Casualty Underwriter for the region. He will report to Head of Australia & Pacific Claudio Saita and be based in the Sydney office.

Mr Elliott joins from Axa XL, where he was Senior Casualty Underwriter. He previously held similar roles at Allianz and AIG.
