IA revamps leadership as founder Carr steps back

Insurance Advisernet Australia’s operations GM Andrew Borden has been promoted to CEO under a leadership succession plan at the authorised representative network.

In other changes from next month, Australian broking and risk services GM Josh Hamill will become chief broking officer and IA New Zealand operations GM Travis Atkinson will be NZ CEO.

Australia and New Zealand MD Shaun Standfield will take on expanded responsibilities for unit-holder management and IA Foundations, and oversight of IA Equity Partners. He will also support the Australia and New Zealand CEOs.

IA founder and chair Ian Carr emailed employees and the AR network’s principals to outline the changes yesterday.

“This year marks the 30th anniversary since I founded IA back in 1996, and David Crawford has led our New Zealand business for the last 20 years since we began operations in 2006,” he wrote.

“As part of a planned succession and to focus on our boards, charitable work and IA Equity Partners, David and I will be stepping back from day-to-day operational duties.”

Mr Carr says the business is in “excellent shape” and the leadership changes “ensure continuity of our strategy through a thoughtful and orderly succession plan for our businesses in Australia and New Zealand”.

Mr Borden, who will be responsible for operational leadership across the Australian business, will move from Melbourne to Sydney later this year.

Mr Hamill will lead market engagement with insurer partners and oversee product, placement and technical aspects of the business, plus IA’s education and training function.
