The Curium Risk and Compliance Summit will return in September with the theme From Uncertainty to Confidence.

Senior insurance, risk and law sector leaders will spend a day exploring how to run a business in an unpredictable world, and how war, cyber threats, inflation and regulation are reshaping the industry.

Curium CEO and co-founder Tetiana George says compliance has been treated as the industry’s “paperwork problem” for too long, and the September 3 event at Sydney Opera House will examine what regulators expect and how leading companies are building confidence through better decisions.

“In a world of geopolitical shocks, AI disruption and rising personal accountability, the firms that manage risk with confidence will be the ones left standing,” she said.

“We’ve brought together voices you wouldn’t expect at a compliance event – from a wartime ambassador to the people deciding what counts as a breach – because uncertainty is now the operating environment, and confidence is a capability you build, not a feeling you wait for.”

Speakers at the summit – subtitled Building Reliable, Proactive Risk and Compliance in a Volatile World – include BAC Insurance Brokers COO Mitchell Lipscombe; Network Insurance House head of risk and compliance Allana Dynon; BMIA Broker Network GM Debbi Thorne; Lloyd’s regulatory and compliance manager Dipali Dongre; Argyle Insurance CEO Matthew Morgan; and Medical Indemnity Protection Society head of risk, regulatory and compliance Sarah Geistendor.

Vasyl Myroshnychenko, Ukraine’s ambassador to Australia and New Zealand, will return after featuring at the inaugural event last year, and Financial Complaints Authority senior manager for code compliance and operations Daniela Kirchlinde and code compliance analyst Carli Kidd will share insights.

Ms George, who is from Ukraine, says this year’s theme came from “watching the same pattern over and over: firms doing enormous amounts of compliance and still not feeling safe. They’ve got the manuals, the registers, the frameworks – and then something happens, a complaint blows out or a third party fails, and nobody’s sure the paperwork reflects reality.”
