Tego marks anniversary with innovation award wins
Medical malpractice underwriter Tego Insurance won six accolades at this year’s Global Insurance Innovation Awards.
It was named Australia’s best underwriting agency and most improved insurance company, and won the overall best insurance product award.
Sydney-based Tego was also recognised for its claims and client servicing teams, and won in the “outstanding IT transformation” category.
CEO Eric Lowenstein says the achievements “recognise the strength of our partnerships and the exceptional work of our underwriting, claims and service teams”.
The wins come as the underwriter marks its 10th anniversary in the Australian market, where its operations are nearing $60 million in annual gross written premium.
“This milestone is more than a celebration of growth – it’s a reflection of how far underwriting agencies have evolved,” Mr Lowenstein said. “We’re proud to be part of an industry that continues to innovate and raise standards across the board.”
Mr Lowenstein says the company is looking to expand its product suite, with a possible focus on artificial intelligence.
“Cyber insurance was in its infancy a decade ago, and I believe AI liability will follow a similar trajectory,” he said.
“It’s only a matter of time before AI innovation becomes a standalone risk requiring its own specialist insurance.”
QBE won at the Global Insurance Innovation Awards for its claims management team and systems, while Chubb was named best life insurer in Asia-Pacific.
