Suncorp sets up base on ‘front line of extreme weather’

Suncorp has opened a regional hub in Townsville as part of a promise to invest in Queensland after selling its bank to ANZ.

The CBD site is equipped to become a satellite disaster response facility, integrated with the insurer’s catastrophe management centre in Brisbane.

Suncorp says more than 100 jobs have been created and one of its five new mobile disaster response hubs will be permanently stationed in Townsville, ready for deployment.

“North Queensland is on the front line of extreme weather and we’re taking decisive action to be there for our customers when they need us most,” CEO Steve Johnston said.

“The opening of the regional hub is an investment in the future of north Queensland, so we can be on the ground, offering real-time insights and support.”

The hub is part of Suncorp’s jobs and investment commitment to the state government, to secure its support for the bank sale.
