New Zealand's Delta opens Brisbane office

Specialist New Zealand-headquartered underwriting agency Delta has expanded into Australia with a new Brisbane office, building on its recent Asia Pacific growth.

An initial suite of professional indemnity, cyber insurance and commercial liability will kick off the launch, with plans to expand its offering in the coming months.

The expansion was spearheaded by Director Stephen Carey, who was most recently at Chubb for over a decade, where he held a number of underwriting, management and business development roles.

Mr Carey says his team is particularly focused on working with clients in the professional services, technology, healthcare and manufacturing and food and beverage sectors.

“We are looking forward to getting out into the market and building relationships with brokers and their clients as we help them tailor solutions for their client’s business exposures across Delta’s suite of niche insurance products,” he said.

Joining Mr Carey are Underwriting Manager - Professional Indemnity, Technology & Cyber Jacqui Warwick and office administrator Courtney Clout.

Established by MD and Chairman Ian Pollard and Group Executive Director Craig Kirk in 2014, Delta expanded into Asia soon after and became the first Lloyd’s coverholder in Singapore. It now provides specialist underwriting to clients across the region, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.

With more than 50 staff and almost 20,000 clients, Mr Pollard says the time is right to expand to Australia, where Delta has established a new coverholder in Australia with the support of several new and existing capacity partners.

“It’s one of the biggest insurance markets in the world,” Mr Pollard said. “We have been building a business case to launch in Australia since we started Delta Insurance, and we’re excited that moment has arrived.”

“We’re incredibly excited to join the Australian market and forge new partnerships with brokers and intermediaries across the country.”
