Hutch adds landlord cover, distribution head
Hutch Underwriting has launched landlord insurance and promoted Melodi Emadi to the new role of head of distribution.
The landlord offer launched today on the Steadfast Client Trading Platform and Ebix Sunrise Exchange.
It has optional rent protections and a built-in cyber section.
“Hutch landlord insurance is designed for residential landlords renting out standalone dwellings, terraces, duplexes and non-strata units to tenants on either short- or long-term agreements. The product offers building, contents or combined cover, along with protection for legal liability and digital threats,” Hutch said today.
Quoting is quick and specific to addresses, it says, featuring underwriting questions that aim to give automatic decisions for more than 90% of submissions.
“We developed a question set that takes the guesswork out of underwriting and gives brokers modern cover options without the complexity,” co-founder Dominique Vagi said.
Policies include up to $2 million building and $400,000 contents cover; built-in flood and accidental damage where available; optional covers for theft by tenant, rent default, and loss of rent; up to $70,000 for chemical decontamination and $20,000 for rent default; property owners’ legal liability up to $20 million; and cyber protection included as standard, with data breach defence costs and cybercrime losses up to $10,000.
Landlord insurance is the fifth product in the Hutch line-up following strata, annual construction, professional indemnity and trade pack.
Ms Emadi, most recently head of residential strata, will oversee broker relationships across all lines.
CEO Robin Johnson says the “time was right to invest” in dedicated distribution leadership.
“Melodi brings a sharp commercial lens and deep broker insight to the role. She will focus on strategic partnerships and continue to elevate the Hutch experience across all distribution channels,” he said.
Gayle Harmar was recently appointed head of personal lines, and Hutch says she played a key role developing the landlord product, which she now heads.
