Halliwell buys Melbourne polymers lab
US loss consultancy Halliwell has acquired polymer testing laboratory ExcelPlas, which was founded in Melbourne in 1994.
ExcelPlas’ team of 14 specialists offer expert technical analysis and certified laboratory testing focused on plastics, rubbers, adhesives, sealants, coatings and composites.
“Their proprietary technology, international laboratory network and depth of expertise in polymer materials science will enhance our competitive position in forensic materials science,” Halliwell Asia-Pacific MD Colin Taylor said.
ExcelPlas – which will continue to be led by founding director John Scheirs – can help with failure diagnosis, performance assessment, remaining asset life evaluation and routine testing. It will transition to the Halliwell brand.
Dr Scheirs says becoming part of Halliwell is “a natural next step, providing us with the platform and international reach to bring our specialist expertise to a much broader range of clients across the region and beyond”.
McLarens-owned Halliwell expanded to Australia and New Zealand in 2023. It works with insurers, reinsurers, brokers and law firms on risk determination, loss investigation, restoration and litigation.
Its expertise spans forensic and engineering science, construction advice, fire failure origin and cause, passive fire, building codes, surveying and restoration services.
