British job axe ‘does not impact’ Allianz Australia

Allianz says UK job cuts that are partly driven by technological change do not have implications for its Australian business strategies.

The global insurer’s British arm, which has about 6000 employees, is consulting on plans to cut 650 roles across areas including personal lines, commercial, specialty and central functions.

“We’re seeing customers move to our own digital channels for our services and taking out policies through price comparison websites,” Allianz UK said.

“Improving technology in vehicles also means we’re getting fewer claims because of lower numbers of accidents on our roads. And we’re investing to transform ... into a simpler, digital-led business.”

Allianz Australia operates independently from Allianz UK, and each entity is managed separately to cater to the needs and market conditions of each country a local spokesperson says.

“While we closely monitor global trends and developments within the insurance industry, decisions made by Allianz UK do not impact our operations or strategic direction in Australia.”
