Insure Your Future: ‘people want to help’

The National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) Insure Your Future recruitment initiative has struck a chord with members, according to organisers.

Insure Your Future, which aims to promote insurance broking as a career, was launched at the NIBA Convention in October, and National Chairman Cameron Sheild tells insuranceNEWS.com.au he’s been delighted with the response.

“People are saying, ‘wow, this is great, this is needed, and how can I help’,” he said.

The website www.insureyourfuture.com.au will provide a range of resources for potential brokers and NIBA members. The site should go fully live on February 14 next year, but in the meantime, people can register their interest.

“We want to help our members to help themselves,” Mr Sheild says.

“We don’t want to discount the great work done by the [ANZIIF] Careers In Insurance initiative, but we need to be pulling our weight as well.”

Mr Sheild says the scheme will draw up an annual timetable of career expos across the country. Insure Your Future will then provide members with what they need to set up a stand, including merchandise and branding.

But it won’t just focus on bringing in younger recruits, Insure Your Future will also target working parents, migrants, and those approaching retirement.

Mr Sheild says while Insure Your Future won’t directly address industry concerns over burnout, there will be a “domino effect”.

“We know there are a lot of people in the industry that care deeply about what they do,” he said.

“As a result there is too much work for the hours in the day, and they burn out.”

But he says attracting more people into the industry should bring down recruitment costs and take pressure off current employees.
