TAL teams up to help those who ‘slip through the cracks’
TAL has partnered with mental health service provider SANE to support more vulnerable Australians.
As part of the tie-up, the life insurer’s community foundation has struck a three-year strategic agreement with SANE to establish a digital support service for people with mental health problems.
It aims to help those who have previously “slipped through the cracks of the mental health systems” by connecting clinical services with digital networks for continued support.
The partners have also launched a 20-week recovery program for people with complex conditions.
It will give eligible superannuation members, income protection policyholders and total and permanent disability claimants access to one-on-one support services, recovery groups and community support.
TAL says mental health was its leading cause of claims for a fourth consecutive year, with more than 11,000 lodged in 2024-25.
“We are collaborating with innovative partners like SANE to support a more integrated and person-centered approach to mental health care,” MD and group CEO Fiona Macgregor said.
“We believe that addressing community mental health requires increased collaboration among participants in the mental health ecosystem.”
The insurer says the initiative aims to address gaps between primary care and recovery support, with a particular focus on inclusivity for people from diverse backgrounds or with disabilities.
SANE CEO Rachel Green says the “vitally important” partnership is “a significant opportunity for us to advocate and bring forward the collective intelligence of our complex mental health community at an even greater scale”.
