INsight podcast: the future of dealing with natural disasters

The Insurance News podcast focuses on two major industry talking points of the last decade that have come to a head in recent days – reinsurance pools and significant investment in disaster mitigation measures.

Both are finally happening after years of speculation, but only one – mitigation – has been historically supported by the insurance industry.

This week’s edition of INsight, hosted by Insurance News Managing Director Andrew Silcox, features the observations of Insurance News Managing Editor John Deex and Deputy Editor Wendy Pugh.

The panel discusses what we know about the pool, whether it’s fair to residents outside its catchment, and what the industry really thinks about it.

The breakthrough on mitigation, meanwhile, is hailed as a victory for the insurance industry’s persistence.

The podcast also looks at a new travel insurance product that aims to give protection when travel bubbles burst or borders close due to COVID outbreaks, and takes social media to task for spreading “fake news” about COVID vaccines.

You can find a new episode of INsight published here every Wednesday.
