icare overhauls dust diseases system
NSW state insurer icare is modernising its Dust Diseases Care case management platform and has appointed two new members to a board that provides funding for research and support services.
It says the platform revamp represents the most significant enhancement in decades and will provide a more responsive experience and better operational efficiency and data security.
“It will streamline processes, improve risk and compliance oversight, and allow our teams to dedicate more time to delivering high-quality support to impacted workers and their families,” Dust Diseases Care GM Karina Davies said.
The upgrades are due to take effect on August 20.

The scheme’s most recent annual report shows that of its current claims liability, workers with mesothelioma account for 66% and asbestosis 21%, with 13% attributed to silicosis and other dust diseases.
The insurer also said today that Alix Smith and James Barden have joined the Dust Diseases Board, which awards grants for research and support initiatives. Dr Smith was nominated by the Master Builders Association of NSW and Mr Barden by the NSW Minerals Council.
