icare appoints top executive for Nominal Insurer

NSW insurer icare has named Mary Maini as Group Executive responsible for the Nominal Insurer, the state’s largest workers’ compensation scheme.

Ms Maini has more than 25 years’ experience in regulatory and claims management leadership roles, including at the State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) and within the private sector.

Most recently she led the implementation of wide-reaching compulsory third party (CTP) reforms in NSW, while other roles have included GM Claims at TAL and leadership positions in CTP, workers’ compensation and personal injury at IAG.

“We are changing our focus at icare and the announcement today of Mary as the new leader of the Nominal Insurer is the next step,” CEO Richard Harding said.

“Mary has a proven track record of setting strategy and delivering outcomes through leadership, innovation and strong stakeholder relations.”

Mr Harding is overhauling icare’s leadership after taking over as CEO last month, while the board has also undergone a change of personnel.

Key areas for attention are risk and governance; improving performance including getting injured workers back to work sooner and reducing costs; and driving an accountable culture, particularly for icare leaders, Mr Harding says.

Ms Maini will join icare in Sydney on March 24.

“I am enthused by the new focus at icare and look forward to being able to contribute hands-on in improving the lives of injured workers and supporting business,” she said.
