Wagga’s Peter Brown passes on the baton

Prominent NSW regional broker Peter Brown will retire at the end of the month after 53 years in the industry.

He joined Queensland Insurance – now QBE – as an assistant manager in 1966 after finishing school, and stayed there more than 15 years before starting his own brokerage in 1982.

Based in Wagga Wagga, Peter Brown & Associates, which is part of the Austbrokers network, also has offices in Griffith and Tumut, offering tailored products for business and agribusiness, and personal covers.

Mr Brown told insuranceNEWS.com.au he leaves broking with fond memories, particularly of his interactions with clients and insurers.

“Things have changed these days, but business relationships I don’t think have changed.

“Certainly in the years I have been in business, meeting people and companies and getting on with them and being able to negotiate deals with them has been a vital and very enjoyable part of the job,” he said.

His son Scott, who has been MD of the company since 2014, will lead the business with support from siblings Samantha and Georgina.

“It was always intended that the business would be an opportunity for my offspring, and thankfully three joined the staff after completing school,” Mr Brown said.

“They will now be involved in taking the business into its next phase under Scott’s leadership.”
