RIMS urges proactive claims management

Proactive claims reporting and management can provide a huge boost to organisations, the US-based Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) says.

The society has released an 18-page guide that reviews principles of claims management and suggests tips and strategies.

“Claims reporting may be perceived as reactive, but risk professionals who have taken proactive steps to develop and implement a structured claims management process will be prepared to fairly and efficiently address a claim,” RIMS Standards and Practices Council Chairman Yvette Ho Sang said.

“Perhaps more importantly, analysing trends can not only prevent future incidents but can also improve operations.”

RIMS regularly reviews insurance and risk management practices for its 11,000 members across 80 countries. An Australasian chapter of the society was launched last year.
