O’Dwyer to address ICA forum

Assistant Treasurer Kelly O’Dwyer will be the keynote speaker at next month’s Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) Annual Forum.

Registrations are now open for the event at the Sydney Hilton on March 4.

CEO Rob Whelan says delegates will be listening out for any government plans that could affect the insurance sector, including those relating to the Northern Australian Insurance Premiums Taskforce findings, currently under consideration.

He says they will also be looking for signs the Government will encourage states to remove insurance stamp duties under tax reforms.

Other confirmed speakers include Australian Securities and Investments Commission Deputy Chairman Peter Kell, Australian Prudential Regulation Authority Executive Member Geoff Summerhayes, Fairfax economics writer Jessica Irvine, author and workplace commentator Catherine Fox, National Disability Insurance Agency CEO David Bowen, Finity Consulting MD Estelle Pearson and ICA Effective Disclosure Taskforce Chairman Michael Gill.

Mr Whelan says the event – formerly called the Regulatory Update – has been broadened to examine changes to the business and political environment. After a “tough 2015” it is an opportunity for insurance professionals to enhance their understanding of the developments and issues that will influence the industry this year.

“Delegates can expect perceptive analysis and robust discussion around key issues including the impact of climate change on insurance, efforts to assist low-income earners to better access insurance and the National Injury Insurance Scheme,” Mr Whelan said.
