NIBA names Queensland, WA winners

The National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) has announced the state winners for Queensland and WA in its annual awards scheme.

The Queensland prizes were presented before 350 people at a lunch following the Underwriting Agencies Council/NIBA expo in Brisbane last Wednesday.

Broker of the year is Greg Rynenberg, MD of East West Insurance Brokers in Brisbane. Ray Pavey of North Queensland Insurance Brokers in Townsville and Sharon Pyne of Beenleigh-based Parmia Insurance are runners-up.

Queensland young professional broker of the year is Adele May, from Willis in Brisbane. Runners-up are Jodie Kimber from North Queensland Insurance Brokers and Ben McKinnie of Aon in Brisbane.

The WA awards were announced at the NIBA WA gala lunch, attended by 500 people in Perth on Friday.

Rick Post from Perth-based Centrewest Insurance Brokers takes the broker of the year award, edging out Gibbscorp’s Justin Geldart and Neil Watson from Willis, also based in Perth.

The WA young professional broker of the year is Aon’s Cameron Dee, who beat fellow Perth brokers Callan Drummond from Austral Risk Services and Luke Pratt and Sarsha Thomas, both of Willis.

The winners will join the NSW/ACT, SA/NT and Victoria/Tasmania winners to compete for the national awards, to be presented at the NIBA Convention in Adelaide in September.

The Broker of the Year program is sponsored by Zurich, while the young professionals will compete for the Warren Tickle Memorial Award, which has been sponsored by Vero since it was launched in 1990.
