IBANZ launches new skills and development courses

The Insurance Brokers Association of New Zealand College has developed new short courses for members to improve their technical and professional skills.

The technical courses cover topics such as the essentials of business interruption, duty of disclosure, principles of risk management and professional indemnity liability.

IBANZ CEO Gary Young says the courses combine a technical paper with a workshop where participants can work through a scenario they may encounter.

“The papers have been written from scratch here so they have a New Zealand context,” he told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

Mr Young says certificates in financial services were offered last year when new legislation and regulations were introduced but brokers said they needed education more tailored to broking and insurance.

IBANZ has also launched a series of professional seminars for members wanting to build their business skills.

These cover issues such as building relationships with clients and insurers, developing a winning personal brand and sales strategies.

The courses are running from now through August.
