Ansvar awards $250,000 to youth projects

Faith, care and community insurer Ansvar has announced the nine recipients of this year’s Community Education Program grants totalling $250,000.

They include the Australian Refugee Volunteers camps program for refugee children, and Courage To Care, a travelling exhibition to educate children about discrimination.

The Create Your Future program, which helps children transition from out-of-home care to independent living, is another recipient.

Ansvar CEO Warren Hutcheon says the recipients’ work to improve the lives of young Australians is inspirational.

“Funding for non-profit organisations becomes more and more of a challenge every year, and Ansvar looks forward to watching these amazing organisations make a positive impact in so many people’s lives,” he said.

Since its inception in 1994 the program has donated more than $10 million to projects working towards empowerment and education, and outreach and support.

The other winners this year are:

  • Down Syndrome Victoria for the Down Syndrome Inclusion Support Service
  • Goulburn Mulwaree Council for the Be Seen Be Heard youth opportunities program
  • Reach Foundation for the Grounded scheme
  • St Vincent De Paul Society Queensland’s Buddies Days scheme in Gympie
  • Top Blokes Foundation for Building Blokes 2.0
  • WA Police and Community Youth Centres Albany’s Strike II Drug Aware Youth Drop-in Centre.
