ICA renews call to Berejiklian on mitigation, taxes

The Insurance Council of Australia has called on the re-elected NSW Coalition to protect flood-prone towns through disaster mitigation and to abolish the emergency services levy and insurance stamp duties.

In a short statement, the Insurance Council urges Premier Gladys Berejiklian to fulfil its wish list and harness the state’s economic strength through a program of mitigation infrastructure.

“Infrastructure was a strong element of the [state election] campaign,” CEO Rob Whelan says.

He says the Government, re-elected at the weekend, should also work with the insurance industry to tackle the impact of climate change.

“The general insurance industry looks forward to a continuing constructive working relationship with the Coalition Government,” Mr Whelan says.
