NZ brokers continue to face SSP data issues

New Zealand brokers are still struggling to access crucial data lost during the outage at insurance technology company SSP.

SSP says its system’s “core functionality” is back, but admits “work continues to restore some document archives and other non-transactional data”.

New Zealand Manager Samuel Finkle told insuranceNEWS.com.au there is no timescale for resolving those issues.

Rosser Underwriting MD Andrew McFetridge says he has been told it could be another 1-3 weeks.

“We have been making our own attempts to recover our data, but it is far from ideal,” he said. “There is lots of downtime for staff and we have lost a couple of accounts.

“We have lost $NZ50,000 ($47,442), maybe more.”

He says his business could join with others to seek compensation from SSP.

Mr Finkle confirmed “there will be some form of goodwill”, but the details of any payments have still to be worked through.

The failure followed a power cut last month at a data centre in England, where the impact on brokers was even greater.
