CTP schemes performing well: Finity

The funding positions of most motor insurance compulsory third party (CTP) schemes in Australia and New Zealand improved last financial year, according to Finity.

The actuarial consultancy’s latest report on the sector shows that only the NT and WA schemes’ positions worsened in the year to last June, but both remain well above 100% funding.

Claims frequencies over the past four years have reduced across all jurisdictions except NSW and the NT (both up 7% compared with 2010/11) and New Zealand (unchanged).

The largest reductions are in SA (down 26% from 2010/11) and WA (down 18%).

The WA Government has released a green paper proposing a new no-fault scheme for people who suffer catastrophic injuries in motor accidents.
