Murray takes reins as AMP Chairman

David Murray has pledged to rebuild AMP and restore trust after taking over as Chairman, replacing former IAG CEO Mike Wilkins.

Mr Wilkins became executive chairman after Catherine Brenner resigned following revelations at the Hayne royal commission that the financial services group misled the corporate regulator.

He has now resumed the role of Acting CEO, which he took up when Craig Mellor quit just before Ms Brenner’s exit. He will remain in this position until a new CEO is appointed, when he will return to being a non-executive director.

AMP last month announced the appointment of Mr Murray, a former Commonwealth Bank CEO and chairman of the Financial System Inquiry.

“I am pleased to begin the task of rebuilding AMP as Chairman, working with the board and management to restore trust in the company,” he said last week.

“AMP plays an important role in the Australian financial system, serving more than 3.8 million customers with products and services that are vital to the functioning of our economy.

“Our business has undoubtedly been challenged by recent events, but the board will set the tone from the top as we drive change across the business.”
