McLarens targets Technical Assessing takeover

International loss adjuster McLarens has bid to acquire Australian independent specialty loss adjuster Technical Assessing.

Talks are ongoing, according to Technical Assessing MD Steve Nance.

“There’s no agreement yet or any discussion of figures, so we are a long way off selling our firm,” he told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

However, he says there would be “advantages” in being part of a multinational company.

Technical Assessing previously had an association with loss adjuster Miller International in the UK, but that business is now part of Crawford & Company so the link has ended, he says.

McLarens returned to the Australian market last year, attracted by strong Asia-Pacific growth.

Mr Nance says over the years his business has attracted a number of suitors, because it performs high-level specialist work in complex claim areas such as construction liability, mining and energy.

It is also one of the last independent loss adjusting firms in Australia.

“Quite frankly, we are fairly desirable and we have really good people,” he said.

Mr Nance wants a resolution in the next two months if possible. “I don’t want this dragging on for too long.”
