The astronomical growth in the share price of insurance software specialist Ebix has seen it named as Fortune magazine's second-best investment in the world and fourth fastest-growing company.

The US-headquartered company, which owns the Sunrise Exchange transaction platform and broking software companies in Australia and New Zealand, delivered shareholders a 77% three-year annual rate of return.

In its latest edition, Fortune charts Ebix behind Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (88%) but ahead of Apple (35%) and Amazon.com (29%).

Earlier this month, Ebix announced a 41% jump in net profit for the second quarter this year to $US8.96 million ($10.79 million).

While declining to be specific about local results, Ebix Australia MD Leon d'Apice says the Australian subsidiary is performing strongly.
