UAC seminars highlight employer risks

The Underwriting Agencies Council (UAC) and Gilchrist Connell Lawyers will hold a series of seminars to help businesses avoid problems with employees and contractors.

The seminars will be presented by Special Counsel Joel Zyngier, the national head of Gilchrist Connell’s employment practices liability and management liability practice.

The first topic is how to identify and deal with potential employee claims, and prevent claims in the first place.

Mr Zyngier will also discuss tips, tricks and pitfalls when hiring employees and contractors, including lawful behaviour in recruitment and different ways to engage labour.

“Most employers have no idea they’ve got an employee problem until it’s too late,” UAC says.

“By then a claim has reared its ugly head. But most employee claims can be nipped in the bud early or prevented.”

Mr Zyngier will also speak on contracting and explain the differences between casual, part-time, permanent, fixed-term, maximum-term and other types of employment arrangements.

The seminars are scheduled for Sydney on July 5, Melbourne on July 12, Brisbane on July 19, Adelaide on August 23 and Perth on November 18.

The events are free to attend, but advance registration is required. Click here for details.
