WA widens care for motor accident victims

The WA Government has extended motor vehicle injury insurance coverage for people catastrophically hurt in accidents.

The Motor Vehicle (Catastrophic Injuries) Bill 2016 ensures that from July 1 all such motorists will receive treatment, care and support for the rest of their lives.

The cost of the expanded cover is a maximum of $99 in the first year for each registered vehicle and motorcycle, with smaller rises for tractors, mopeds, vintage cars and farm firefighting vehicles.

There will be no increases for caravans and trailers.

Catastrophic injuries are spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries, multiple amputations, severe burns and permanent traumatic blindness.
